Finishing options

Sanding & Smoothing

Layer lines removed by hand

Progressive grit sanding from coarse to fine removes FDM layer lines and resin print marks, leaving a smooth, consistent surface ready for display, painting, or direct use. Labour-intensive but works on any geometry.

Best for

Display models
Parts with visible flat or gently curved surfaces
Pre-paint preparation

Compatible

PLA PETG ABS ASA TPU All resins

Vapor Smoothing

Acetone vapor treatment

ABS and ASA parts are exposed to acetone vapor in a controlled chamber. The vapor melts a thin outer layer of the material, which flows and re-solidifies into a smooth, near-injection-moulded surface finish. No manual sanding required.

Not available for PLA, PETG, TPU, or resin prints. ABS or ASA material required.

Best for

Enclosures & housings
Parts requiring a glossy consumer finish
Complex geometry where sanding is impractical

ABS ASA

PLA PETG TPU Resins

Epoxy Coating

Clear structural seal coat

A two-part epoxy (XTC-3D or equivalent) is brushed onto the surface, self-levelling into layer lines and curing to a hard, clear finish. Seals the surface against moisture, adds minor structural reinforcement, and improves abrasion resistance.

Not recommended for TPU or flexible parts — the rigid coating will crack under flex.

Best for

Waterproofing or moisture-sensitive applications
Parts needing added surface hardness
Display models requiring a gloss or satin finish

Compatible

PLA PETG ABS ASA All resins

Not compatible

How to add post-processing to your order

Post-processing is an add-on to a print order — it's not a standalone service. When you upload your file, you'll have the opportunity to select finishing options as part of the checkout flow.

For batch orders or RFQ jobs, mention your finishing requirements in the brief and we'll include it in the quote. Post-processing adds 1–2 business days to the standard lead time.
